Grandmaster of Shorin-Ryu Karate & Kobudo, Arizona
It's a miracle! Often berated by school teachers for day-dreaming and not paying attention and told by his high-school councilor that it would be a waste of time to attend college, and even told by a bureaucrat that he didn't know how to communicate. But, teachers and councilor missed the fact he was a dreamer and workaholic. Through time, dreams became affirmations which evolved into reality. There is no doubt in his mind that this was the will of God! "I'm not sure what His plan is for me, but I thank God every day for these gifts".
So, instead of failure, he rose to levels few achieve. Elected to 16 Halls-of-Fame and Halls-of-Honor; inducted into Who's Who in Martial Arts not only for martial arts abilities, but also for ability to teach. Selected for the Albert Nelson Marquis Who's Who Lifetime Achievement Award. So, how does a person go from a straight 'D' student into the Hall-of-Fame? By following dreams. And yes, his first report card was straight 'D's. "You should have seen the shock on my parents faces! By the way, my loving parents totally supported me in my endeavors, even in high school when I wanted to be a rock n' roll star and nearly drove them deaf."
MARTIAL ARTS. Grandmaster (Soke) Hausel celebrated 5 decades of martial arts in 2014. He began training in 1964-65 in kyokushin karate in Salt Lake City as a long-haired teenager in a popular rock n' roll band. Prior to moving the Hombu (world headquarters for Seiyo Shorin-Ryu Karate) to Mesa, Arizona, he was instructor of martial arts at Gold's Gym, Apollos Gym, Laramie Bushido Dojo, Arizona State University, the University of New Mexico, the University of Utah, and Professor of Martial Arts for more than 3 decades at the University of Wyoming.
A recipient of national & international awards in geology, public speaking, art, mineral discoveries, exploration, education, teaching, martial arts & writing. Awarded Grandmaster of the Year, International Instructor of the Year and Instructor of the Year in martial arts and Thayer Lindsley Award in Economic Geology. Other notable awards include Archimedes Award in Geological Sciences, Wyoming Geological Association's Distinguished Service Award, National Lapidary and Rockhound Hall of Fame's Education Award, American Association of Petroleum Geologists President's Certificate, Laramie Lyceum's Distinguished Speaker, University of Wyoming Dept. of Geology & Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer, Juko Kai International Meijin Wajutsu, and certified as Sokeshodai of Seiyo No Shorin-Ryu Karate Kobudo Kai by Zen Kokusai Soke Budo Bugei Renmei. Soke Hausel has been a long-time personal student of Dai-Soke R. Sacharnoski who is arguably the greatest martial artist of our time. Hausel received other national awards and was selected for other honors - but because of commitments, he was unable to accept many of the 'selected for' awards listed below. You will find him listed as a notable person at various wiki sites such as Gilbert, Arizona, the University of Utah, South High School, Dan Hausel, Professor Hausel, etc.
