Yokoso! Welcome! Stop by our dojo at the NW corner of Baseline and MacDonald in Mesa: meet our students; watch a class. There's no limit to what you can learn in our dojo

Because of Soke Hausel's experience in teaching at four universities, we are adult oriented. Even so, we offer training to children in our Kids Class. They can also train with their parent or grandparent in group classes. As an adult, you train with other adults. When you sign up, all classes are open to you at one price. Soke Hausel, 10th dan, will be your instructor for most classes. Periodically, you may be taught by Dr. Adam, 8th dan; Shihan-Dai Scofield, 4th dan; or Sensei Ingram or Sensei Moeur, 3rd dan.

Adult membership: $135/month.

  • Pay as you go (cash, personal check, PayPal - NO credit cards). Martial arts training provides health benefits you cannot get from a gym or health food store.
  • Just add $40 to your monthly membership fee and your spouse, son, or daughter may attend with you (children must be at least 8 years old).

Other fees are periodic kyu/dan rank exams (optional).

Private Lessons are available.

  • Few instructors have as much experience as Grandmaster Hausel in martial arts. Professor of Martial Arts at the University of Wyoming for more than 30 years, and instructor of karate and self-defense at ASU, U of U, and U of NM. Soke taught classes and clinics to faculty, staff, and students, church organizations, air force, scout groups, women's groups, librarians, the Gilbert Tea Party, and others, and teaches more than a dozen martial arts included in Shorin-Ryu Karate, Kobudo, Self-Defense, Jujutsu, and Samurai Arts. One hour private lessons are $60 each, and for two people, they are $100.

We reserve the right to refuse training to anyone

Classes at the Seiyo no Shorin-Ryu Karate Hombu in Arizona are limited to 25. We have a mix of men, women, and families, ranging from children to seniors

  • We also have special clinics on some Saturday mornings, and an annual Spring Shorin-Ryu clinic.
  • Some also attend summer clinics with Soke including: (1) National Juko Kai clinic in New Braunfels, Texas, (2) Gasshuku at the East Canyon Resort near Park City, Utah, and (3) French-Swiss Shorin-Ryu Clinic in Geneva, France. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

  • Periodically, members are asked to test for rank in karate and kobudo. Depending on the individual, this may occur after 2 to 6 months of training. If you pass, you will be promoted and awarded rank certification after a fee is paid.

  • Mudansha ranks (9th kyu to 1st kyu) known as color belts, are $50/rank.
  • Kobudo certifications - $50.
  • All yudansha ranks - $150. Most yudansha tests can be completed in one evening, with exceptions of Sandan (Sensei) & Godan (Shihan). These two require considerable evaluation & only those who show total dedication in training & attendance are considered. Typically, it takes a few weeks or more for these two tests.
  • Special rates are available for families.
