“Karate begins with courtesy and ends with courtesy” June 12-13th, 2009. The Mesa hombu was visited by SKI members from Wellington, Colorado, Cheyenne, Wyoming and Phoenix Arizona who trained
in nunchuku, tanto, empty hand self-defense and hanbojutsu. At the end of training, Kyle Linton, 3rd dan, received Sensei appointment and was certified in hanbojutsu. Kevin Vance was certified in hanbojutsu, promoted to godan (5th degree black belt) and appointed to Shihan (master instructor). Glenn Polk was certified in hanbojutsu, promoted to yondan (4th degree black belt) and appointed to Shihan-Dai (sub-Master instructor). Dr. Neal Adam received certification in hanbojutsu, was promoted to yondan (4th degree black belt), and appointed to Shihan-Dai (sub-Master instructor).
April 2009, George Mumford from Boston Massachusetts and Elaine Mumford from Switzerland by the Hombu for private training for a few days in mid-April. While at the dojo, George adn Elaine trained in kata and some kobudo weapons and focused on katana (kenjutsu) training. At the end of training, Elaine was promoted to Kukyu (yellow belt) and George was promoted to shodan (1st degree black belt) and certified as Sensei (teacher).
April 2-4, 2009, Members of the Utah Shorin-Kai Karate from Murray, Utah traveled to Mesa, Arizona to train under Soke Hausel, at the Arizona Hombu (world headquarters). The Utah group included Kyoshi Rob Watson (7th degree black belt), Shihan Todd Stoneking (5th degree black belt), Sensei Jeff Schroeder and others. Soke Hausel is the grandmaster of Seiyo Shorin-Ryu Karate which has members scattered worldwide.
The training center is expecting other members over the next few months from Cheyenne, Boston, and Tamilnadu India. The Mesa-Gilbert traditional martial arts center is located at the NE corner of MacDonald at Baseline.
Nov. 5th, 2008. Following the opening of the World Headquarters (Arizona Hombu) of Seiyo Shorin-Ryu Karate and Kobudo in Mesa in mid October, several students traveled from India to train in traditional karate and jujutsu. The students from the Police DAV public school in Jalandhar, India, traveled from the base of the Himalaya Mountains to the US.
The students arrived in Phoenix with their team manager on October 15th and began training. The group was selected from the school’s student body of more than 5500 because of their dedication to karate (which is part of the school’s curriculum). The school plans to send more groups so that the students can experience travel to a foreign country, and also to obtain proper certification in martial arts. The Hombu is also expecting students from other schools in India, Vietnam, the US, and Middle east early next year.
August 8th, 2009. The 2008 Gassuku in East Canyon (near Park City) Utah was held early last month. The training was intense and included self-defense, hanbo, kumite, obstacle course, and more. Several members from the Utah Shorin-Kai were in attendance along with Justin Roadifer from Evanston and Lenny Martin from Laramie. The following Monday, Soke also taught kata at the Murray dojo in the Salt Lake valley.
April 12th-13th, 2008. The 30th Year Anniversary Clinic at the University of Wyoming was a success. Members from UW along with members from Cheyenne, Gillette, Casper, Evanston traveled to train in Laramie. This was the 30th continuous year the the UW Shorin-Ryu Karate Club was in existence. Soke Hausel traveled from Laramie to Gillette with Sensei Kyle Gewecke to teach another clinic in Gillette for the Gillette and Rozet dojos.
2008. The Hombu visited the Utah Shorin-Kai in Murray Utah for training. Members of the Utah Shorin-Kai later traveled to the Hombu in Laramie to train with Soke in Sai jutsu.
2003. Tadashi Yamashita and a few of his students traveled to the Hombu at the University of Wyoming in Laramie to train with Soke Hausel and members of SKI. Yamashita Sensei is known for his brand of Shorin-Ryu karate, a movie star a
nd stunt man coordinator.

1996. The JKI Hombu visits the UW Karate Club in Laramie at Corbett Gym at the University of Wyoming. Members were treated to training by the Great Dai-Soke R. Sacharnoski who taught the attendees Juko-Ryu Kijutsu.
