AMERICAN ORDER OF MERIT                           8/14/2009

One martial artist from Arizona insists on teaching ethical & moral values. As a result of this philosophy & lifelong accomplishments in martial arts & geological sciences, he has been nominated for the American Order of Merit. Dan Hausel, a 10th dan red belt and grandmaster of Shorin-Ryu Karate, operates a training center in Mesa & continues his legacy of teaching martial arts values following 4 decades of teaching at various universities.

Traditional karate is nothing new. It's been around for hundreds of years, but over the past 50 years, sport has clouded much ethical & moral value instilled in Okinawan Karate. In fact, if one looks at the history, philosophy and origins of traditional karate, it becomes clear that sport martial arts are not martial arts at all – they have taken a different path that many pioneers in traditional karate have objected to. Thus Grandmaster Hausel continues to focus on these values & eliminate competition in karate.  When karate was created on Okinawa several hundred years ago, there was no competition, it was designed for self-defense and self-improvement as a person”.

Soke Hausel, a Grandmaster of Shorin-Ryu Karate Kobudo (Seiyo Kai) teaches karate in Mesa, Arizona. The majority of his students are college graduates that include physicists, astronomers, geologists, archeologists and other scientists, social scientists, engineers, business managers, law enforcement agents, doctors, lawyers, university faculty & teachers.  Over the years, he received several national & international awards for teaching. He is a member of 15 Halls of Fame.  J.M. Evans, President of the American Biographical Institute contacted Hausel, I am writing to inform you that we wish to induct you into the American Order of Merit …. Your achievements and dedication … make you a perfect inductee. Dr. Hausel, you are an inspiration to those around you. On behalf of the Institute, I send my heartfelt thanks for the accomplished and honorable example you are demonstrating to others”.
