Seiyo Kai International

Where East Meets West - Traditional Karate

SCHEDULE - ADULT CLASSES

Okinawa’s original form of karate - Shorin-Ryu is filled with traditions, ceremony & philosophy designed to improve one’s self-esteem, self-confidence, respect & concern for others. The traditional forms (kata) of karate are a living encyclopedia of techniques, self-defense applications & guides that were the favorite of Okinawan masters of the past. These forms are the primary focus of Seiyo-Shorin Ryu Karate & Kobudo.

The Arizona Hombu, or International Training Center for Seiyo No Shorin-Ryu Karate Kobudo Kai is located on MacDonald at the NE corner of MacDonald at Baseline (60 W. Baseline Rd, Mesa, AZ 85210). The world headquarters is open to the public & offers training in karate, kobudo (weapons), jujutsu, self-defense & Samurai arts.

INSTRUCTOR. All Shorin-Ryu classes are taught by Grandmaster Hausel, 10th dan.

CLASSES. When you walk into the Hombu in Mesa you will be greeted as a friend. You will be taught basics of karate & traditions, how to tie your obi (belt), how to block (uke), strike (tsuki) & kick (geri). As you progress, you will learn secrets of Okinawan karate including kata.

KATA. Kata are forms that provide physical & mental conditioning, meditation & self-defense applications. They have similarities to Okinawan traditional dances, but contain hidden self-defense applications. When understood these become an encyclopedia of self-defense applications of devastatingstrikes, blocks, kicks, avoidance, throws, escapes, restraints, pressure point strikes & ki (internal energy).

SHORIN-RYU. As you to train in Shorin-Ryu (translates as Shaolin & suggests a generic relationship with Shoalin Kung Fu of China), you will be taught Kobudo (ancient Okinawan weapons). Kobudo weapons were Okinawan farming and fishing implements converted for self-defense. Trusted students are also taught one-punch knockouts, pressure point defenses & shitai kori (body hardening).

MEMBERSHIP. We have members scattered worldwide including the US, Brazil, China, Japan, India, Iran, Ireland, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Germany, Greece, Canada, Ireland, Norway, France, etc.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT. Karate is designed for self-improvement. Kids learn to be self-confident, positive, disciplined. Adults make new friends & learn traditions & self-confidence. We are a family of martial artists .
