The Arizona Hombu was again presented the Best of Mesa award for its unique traditional karate classes and training. World Black Belt Martial Arts Hall of Fame Inductee and Grandmaster, Soke Hausel stated, "I am proud of my students and their accomplishments in martial arts as well as in their lives. Martial arts should improve a person in all aspects of their lives and I am reminded of a statement made many years ago by Gichin Funakoshi from Okinawa that 'Karate is not about victory or defeat, it is about the perfection of the participants' and this is what our program is designed to do".
Grandmaster Hausel has been teaching for more than 4 decades and his schools have produced hundreds of great students in life's arena that include dozens of PhDs in science, engineering and education. The great majority of Soke Hausel's students also earned other graduated and college degrees in science, engineering, social sciences, education and physical education and many are professional engineers, scientists, lawyers, teachers, professors, clergy, counsellors, soldiers, etc. In addition, many of these people also earned blacke belts in karate.
Soke Hausel indicated that his martial arts schools present and past have periodically been considered for awards. For example, while teaching at the University of Wyoming for 30 years, his school was awarded the top JKI school in 1999. This was not an easy accomplishment considering that JKI was one of the larger US/Okinawa/Japan traditional martial arts associations. Being awarded the Best of Mesa is an honor.
